Summary:
The Senior Wide Area Network Systems Engineer will be a senior level Systems Engineer with visibility and oversight over dozens of systems engineering projects, proposals, and lower level system's engineers, systems administrators and thousands of systems throughout a wide area network potentially covering multiple sites in multiple countries. The Senior WAN System Engineer will provide expertise to operate and maintain mission critical Enterprise Services including Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, System Center Configuration Manager, SharePoint, DNS / PKI, VMware / Nutanix virtualization and will work with potentially thousands of systems located in multiple countries. Application of Cyber Security principles and best practices to all systems engineering tasks is imperative. The successful candidate will be capable of defending their systems design plans from an information assurance standpoint with an understanding of the NIST SP800 and Risk Management Frameworks (RMF).
Essential Job Functions: (not limited to duties as described - performs related duties as requested)
Oversees administration of Systems Infrastructure spanning both Local Area and Wide Area Networks over geographically diverse locations.
Designs Systems Engineering and additional Information Technology solutions for Proposals integrating latest industry standards and technology.
Engineers solutions, and guides the installation of these solutions.
Collaborates with personnel throughout multiple locations in order to ensure optimized, stable and secure implementations of the Active Directory Domain and Exchange Messaging environment including complex message routing and advanced directory services topics such as directory synchronization.
Aligns and coordinates resources, priorities, work plans, and activities among the system administration division.
Works with supervisors and military leadership to ensure IT Systems work effectively for the supported organization(s).
Assist when necessary (either remotely or in person) in the event of serious systems outages and service disruptions.
Level of Supervision:
Medium and Associate System Engineers and System Administrators.
Education and
Experience: (or equivalent)
Bachelor degree from an accredited college/university or addition of 5 years to overall experience requirement or experience as lead systems engineer in a Theater Network Operations and Security Center or an equivalent.
Minimum Seven (7) years of experience as a Systems Engineer with direct experience leading a team that maintains an Active Directory Forest of more than 10,000 users located at multiple locations.
Experience with server virtualization (cluster design, engineering and operations), storage solutions (SAN/FC/NFS/iSCSI) and understanding of troubleshooting across the OSI model are required.
Experience with WAN application acceleration / de-duplication technologies (Riverbed / F5 BIG IP) is a plus.
Minimum 8 years general System's engineering experience, 6 years with Graduate Degree.
License and Certifications:
MCSE; Security
or CISSP; VMware Certified Professional 5/6.
Knowledge and Skills:
This position requires high level of knowledge and job experience in Windows 2003 through Windows Server 2012 Active Directory and Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2013 services.
